Enric Martínez-Castignani
He studied singing and conducting at the Musikhochschule Heidelberg-Mannheim (Germany). He has sung at major international theatres such as Teatro alla Scala, La Fenice, Nationale Opera & Ballet Amsterdam, Opéra de Lyon, Grand Théâtre de Gèneve, Opera du Rhin-Strasbourg, Teatro Real and Teatre del Liceu. He has been directed by David McVicar, Christof Loy, Willy Decker, Laurent Pelly or Robert Carsen, and musically by Daniele Callegari, Lorenzo Viotti, Alain Altinoglu, Daniel Oren, Neville Marriner, Ottavio Dantone or Riccardo Frizza, among others.
His interpretations of Don Pasquale (‘Don Pasquale’), Bartolo (‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’), Dulcamara (‘L'Elisir d'Amore’), Don Magnifico (‘La Cenerantola’), Leporello (‘Don Giovanni’), Don Alfonso (‘Così fan tutte’) or Dottor Kolenaty (‘Vec Makropulos’) have been praised for their vocal and interpretative qualities, as well as for their excellent acting skills.
Considered as one of the most outstanding European liederists, he has given recitals with works such as ‘Winterreise Op. 89’, ‘Schwanengesang D.957’ (Schubert), ‘Dichterliebe Op. 48’, ‘Liederkreis Op. 24 and Op. 39’ (Schumann), and by composers such as Poulenc, Debussy, Ravel, Brahms, Korngold, Vaughan Williams. Toldrà, Mompou and Ortega, among others. Nominated for the Grammy Awards, he has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi, Columna Musica and Opus Arte.
As an artistic director and cultural manager, he founded and directed LIFE Victoria until 2016, he teaches on the Masters in Cultural Management at the Universidad Carlos III and the Complutense, and has collaborated on various projects with the Ministry of Culture, the Consell Nacional de la Cultura i les Arts (CoNCA), the Fundació la Caixa and the Festival de Perelada.
