Paolo Carignani
Paolo Carignani was born in Milan, where he ,graduates from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in composition, organ and piano. He later studied conducting with Alceo Galliera.
He conducts in many Italian opera houses and in prestigious ,international venues such as the Staatsoper Wien, Berlin Staatsoper and Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the San Francisco War Memorial, the Met in New York, the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona, the Concertgebouw Theater Opera in Amsterdam, Royal Opera House in London, the Opera Bastille ,in Paris, in Oslo, Brussels, Antwerp, Glyndebourne, Spoleto, the Schleswig ,Holstein Festival, the Rheingau Festival and at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
His symphonic repertoire leads him to work with the ,Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the Young Nederland’s Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, the KIOTI Sinfonietta, the orchestra of the radio NDR, WDR, ORF, ,the 'RAI National Orchestra of Turin, the Nederlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Gotheburg and many others.
From 1999 to 2008 Paolo Carignani is ,Generalmusikdirektor the Opernhouse in Frankfurt am Main and Director of the ,Stable Frankfurter Opern - And Museumsorchester.
He conducted premiéres in Amsterdam, Antwerp, at Bregenz and Salzburg Festspiele, Bruxelles, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Munich, Strasbourg, Toronto, Zurich, and is regular guest at the MET, in Barcelona, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Tokyo, Vienna, Zurich, of all the big Italian repertoire, from Mozart to Belcanto, till Verdi and the Verismo, with new creations and first modern performances of rare operas, recorded on CD and DVD for the major labels.
In 2018/19 he has made his debut at Teatro alla ,Scala conducting a new production of Ali Baba e i 40 ladroni, at the Bolshoi in Un ballo in maschera, and will be regularly back to Copenhagen, Munich, Vienna, Bolshoi, Antwerp, Sydney, Zurich, the MET.
In 2022/2023 he will be in Sydney conducting Aida, ,in Zurich for Trovatore, at the MET with Aida, in ,Berlin with La forza del destino and in Copenaghen for Traviata ,and Aida.
The 24/25 season will see him again on the podium at the Copenhagen Theater for Cenerentola, Madama Butterfly, Tristan und Isolde, at the Hannover Theater for Aida and Tosca and in Toronto for Nabucco. Again in Geneva for Traviata and in Hamburg with La fanciulla del West.
He carries on an intense concert activity, notably with the major Orchestras in Japan, where he's regularly invited.
